Yvonne Barnes - Director LightHouse Outreach

Yvonne's bio:

Tell us about your family: I was born in Brooklyn, New York but lived most of my life in Baltimore City and County. I have one brother, two adult daughters and one granddaughter. I also have elderly parents (biological father deceased), aunts, uncles and cousins.

Tell your salvation story. When and how did you become a Christ-follower?: I became a born-again Christian in April 1979. I was led to the Lord and baptized by a Christian Pastor that lived in my neighborhood.

Year you joined the GraceWay Church leadership team.: I joined the GraceWay Church leadership team in April 2010.

What do you enjoy about your leadership role?: Helping and serving women and children that are in need and less fortunate than others at the homeless shelter, which is spiritually rewarding to all of us. I enjoy working with the team of women in the Lighthouse Ministry and I thank God for their generosity and support as I coordinate contacts and visits to the homeless shelter with Bibles, literature, home-made meals, clothing and gifts. I also enjoy encouraging and bringing hope through counseling to those in need.

How has God equipped you to serve in your leadership role?: God has blessed me with His gifts of discernment and exhortation. He has also re-opened the door of education for me (since dropping out of college years ago) to graduate next year (2012) with my BS degree in Psychology and pursue my MS degree in Counseling. I will use God’s gifts and education to serve in leadership as He guides me.

What do you like most about GraceWay Church?: Teaching of the Word of God, great ministries, loving Christians and good fellowship.

Your favorite Scripture, and why?: Jeremiah 29:11: For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. This is my favorite scripture because it’s the one that God used to speak to my heart when I was at my “rock bottom” with much trauma and drama in my life and feeling afraid and helpless.

Favorite quote or saying?: One of my favorite sayings is: “Never doubt in the dark what God told you in the light.” My favorite quote is scriptural and is Psalm 46:10: Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!
